Another excursion we took (and was included in our tour) was a desert safari. We rode 4-wheelers/ATVs/Quads (whatever you choose to call them!) through the Arabian Desert. We rode about 20km each way to an area where we met with Bedouin villagers. Then we sat down with them and had tea while they spoke about their lives. It was interesting, albeit, hard to hear.
As a woman who owns not one, but two small businesses, it was hard to hear that women aren’t allowed to work in their culture. But that is why we travel – to learn and grow from these experiences as well as gain an understanding of others.
After we drank our tea, we had the opportunity to ride camels (I declined!) and then we got back on our ATVs and drove back to our starting point. We also took some fun perspective photos along the way.
Despite being so covered up in the heat (needed for protection from the sun and the sand!) it was a lot of fun. It might have been my husband’s favorite part of the trip. That and scuba diving the day before! (My favorite part is yet to come!)
