Here we are, back from the beach. We spent 3.5 long, fun-filled days over on the Jersey shore. Now it’s back to reality for a short time and getting caught up on all my email, blogging, social media, and housework. Next week I get to start all over with the cleaning and packing because we leave for duh-duh-da! Canada in 10 days. And sometime over the next 10 days I also need to finalize all of our plans and completely redo a day on our itinerary. As in, about 10 minutes ago I just found out that the Toronto Islands are shut down due to flooding so the ENTIRE DAY I had planned there is now open.
But you’re here to read about our beach trip so I digress…
Our trip to the beach with my husband’s family was a lot of fun. We arrived the night before everyone else did and had a relaxing evening. Which is good because we knew the next couple of days would be packed full with activities. Also because Taylor got car sick and threw up on the way down. Cleaning her up on the side of the highway was fun. So after arriving we had a nice dinner, walked on the beach, and watched the sunset for a little while before we drove to the boardwalk and watched the firework show. We didn’t get to bed early as the fireworks weren’t until 10:00 but my daughter loves fireworks so it was worth it.
Saturday morning we woke up around 8:00 AM and went to breakfast at Uncle Bill’s Pancake House. So. Much. Food. Which is great because we had leftovers for breakfast the next morning. Well, everyone except me because I housed my Eggs Benedict. After breakfast, we headed to the beach for a few hours. Five hours to be exact. Which is awesome, except that despite reapplying sunscreen and sitting under an umbrella the majority of the time, my back still got fried. My back was sunburnt enough that the next 2 days I wore a shirt over my bathing suit. Boo. Good new is I was militant about sunscreen on my daughter so she is totally fine. Mom for the win!
We went back to the house around 3:30 to get cleaned up and get Taylor down for a short nap because that night we were headed back to the boardwalk to meet up with my husband’s family and enjoy the amusement park rides on the piers. So much fun. And the kids (meaning my daughter and nephew) love the rides and asked to ride the big roller coasters about a hundred times. I’m pretty pumped for that. Obviously she’s too small now but my husband and I love thrill rides so we’re pretty happy that it seems Taylor will follow in our footsteps there. We closed down the piers as we tend to do (those kids are party animals!) and grabbed some custard on the way back to the car. We made back to the house at around 1:00 AM and passed out. I tried to do a bit of Instagramming while I was there but it’s hard with so much going on. And also when your phone signal isn’t that great. I totally blame the ocean.
Sunday morning came way too early since Taylor decided that getting up at 6:20 AM was appropriate. Despite not getting to bed until after midnight the night before. So we did what any good parents would do: we gave her her tablet and went back to sleep. That bought us about another 2 hours of sleep. It still blows my mind that she wasn’t exhausted. Taking our time that morning, we didn’t make it to the beach until around 12:30 or so that day, which was okay with us since we wanted to take it easy. We hung out with my husband’s family and just enjoyed each other’s company and the ocean until 5:00ish. Yeah, that’s what I’m going to go with because I can’t really remember. We got cleaned up and then parted ways at our attempt at having an early night. We had dinner on our own and then went back to the house to begin packing. Our long weekend was almost over. Taylor got to bed at 9:00 that night and my husband and I went to bed around 10:00. So definitely an earlier night.
Monday arrived with my husband’s alarm going off and we all wanted to ignore it. Even Taylor didn’t want to get out of bed (no surprise there since she had about 5 hours of sleep that night before and no nap!) But we persevered, threw everything in the car and headed over to the boardwalk one last time. Today was water park day! We were there when it opened at 9:30 AM and we were there until 5:30 PM. If you’re keeping track, that’s 8 hours of playing at the water park folks. And once again, Taylor had no nap. We got cleaned up and grabbed a nice sit down dinner with my husband’s family. Poor Taylor wanted to go to sleep so badly but I wanted to make sure she slept on the way home and then would also sleep all night so I kept her awake throughout dinner. It was just before 9:00 PM before we were finally on the road (after a quick stop for gas and coffee!) It took just over 2 hours to get home and Taylor slept the whole way home. And then she slept all night long too. Score!
Tuesday came yesterday and Taylor and I were so tired. Absolutely drained from the weekend. It took us all day to catch up. I mean, it didn’t help that we had to get up at 6:45 because she had a dentist appointment. And then I had scheduled my car inspection after that. Luckily my husband worked from home yesterday so while I was getting my car inspected, he put Taylor down for a nap (she was that tired.) And I got to sleep basically all day. Don’t worry, Taylor and I both slept all night too. I finally feel human again today. So today I am unpacking and doing laundry. I might take a nap again today too.
